Galignani

The first English bookshop on the Continent as of 1801 when Giovanni Antonio Galignani opened the original shop on rue rue Vivienne where he not only continued his printing business but included an English language reading room. Giovanni also began Galignani’s Messenger, a daily newspaper and reference point for the English-speaking community on the Continent.
