Linton Tweeds

LintonTweedFabricslkajds3adsfxxx1

Linton Tweeds has been manufacturing tweed fabric since 1912 when Scotsman William Linton started the mill in the Caldewgate area of Carlisle, a small city situated close to the Scottish border and near the famous Lake District. William Linton’s great friend, Captain Molyneux, was a Parisian couturier who in the 1920’s introduced him to a dynamic young lady called Coco Chanel. This began an association which has flourished over the years resulting in the house of Chanel being Linton’s biggest and most prestigious customer. Since then Linton’s has supplied the houses of Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, John Rocha, Victoria Beckham and Thakoon worn by Michelle Obama.

Roger Dubuis Excalibur Automatic Tourbillon Watch

Roger Dubuis' Excalibur now comes in a version with a front mounted flying tourbillon and exposed automatic micro rotor! Some watches lovers will rejoice. the high-luxury, high-style watch is the latest in the band's revitalization effort. Several years ago the brand was very popular, then things went south, and now with refined designs and improved mechanics, they are really fighting to come back and reassert themselves. I will give it to them that the new watches are certainly easy on the eyes and have some novel design features.

The highly complex movement here is the RD 520, that is in-house made by Roger Dubuis. The case is 45mm wide in 18k rose gold, with a standard (large) Excalibur style case. The dial has those great looking sharp Roman numerals complete with sharp hands. You've see thins look on other similar watches - but those had double tourbillons, while this has a single tourbillon and a solid gold micro rotor. The face has a fascinating asymmetrical look, but symmetrical versions of the Roger Dubuis Excalibur are also really nice. The dial is further decorated with mother-of-pearl elements. A nice watch, this one isn't at all cheap. Limited to 88 pieces, the Excalibur Automatic Tourbillon is priced at about $158,000.

The Case of the Missing Painting

The case of the missing masterpiece more closely resembles a spoof of a whodunit, such as Murder by Death, than real life.

According to a lawsuit filed on August 30 by Kristin Trudgeon, a painting she co-owned, "Portrait of a Girl" by Jean Baptiste Camille Corot worth an estimated $1.35 million, was entrusted to James Carl Haggerty and never returned after he showed it to a prospective buyer.

According to court documents, the prospective buyer, Offer Waterman, and Haggerty, met at the office belonging to the painting's co-owner, Tom Doyle, in order to inspect the painting. Doyle later met Haggerty at Rue 57, a restaurant on the upper east side of Manhattan where Doyle handed the painting over to Haggerty. Doyle instructed Haggerty to take the painting to the Mark Hotel where the prospective buyer further inspected the painting with a black light. While Haggerty and the prospective buyer met at the hotel bar, the painting was left at the hotel's front desk. Security cameras at the hotel recorded Haggerty leaving the bar, collecting the painting from the front desk, and exiting the Mark Hotel at 12:50 a.m.

The Fashion Statement: Lanvin at H&M!

I can see the lines snaking around the block now! H&M confirmed it: Men and women will be able to get themselves some Lanvin at about 200 H&M stores on Nov. 23, according to Women's Wear Daily.

Word broke yesterday that the sizzling hot Paris label may be collaborating with cheap chic retailerH&M. Fashion industry bible WWD reported that the Swedish retailer was expected to announce plans with Lanvin and its creative director Alber Elbaz within the coming week.

Upon hearing the news yesterday, the fashion blogs went nuts, writing things like "Yes, Please!" and "Cross your fingers." Even a few well-heeled ladies I talked to vowed they would pick up a piece or ten from the capsule collection.

To wet our appetites, H&M has been posting 23-second highly stylized black and white videos onFacebook and Youtube. Quotes from a mystery designer comes through the mouths of male and female actors captured in flashing images that show everything but an actual face. Initially, the rumor mill focused on Tomas Maier of Bottega Venetta and Carolina Herrera as possible originators of the quotes. Then, WWD wrote yesterday: "While the camera never lingers on the faces long enough for recognition in the clips, the voice-over of designer musings, while electronically altered, are unmistakable Elbaz-isms."

Russian Billionaire's Philippe Starck - Designed Superyacht Startles San Diego

It caused quite a kerfuffle when 38-year-old Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko's megayacht A(above), designed by Philippe Starck, weighed anchor off San Diego the other day while its owner drove off to check out Hearst Castle. The 390-ft. craft which resembles a sci-fi submarine cost over $300 million to build to the quirky designer's specs at Blohm + Voss, where Roman Abramovich'sEclipse was also constructed. With a crew of 35 (all outfitted in Starck-designed uniforms) to run it, the A's twin diesel's kick down 24,000 hp for a maximum speed of 24 knots, impressive for a ship this size. The interior features $40,000 bath faucets and $60,000 stair banisters.

The all-white, 2,583-sq.-ft. master suite wrapped in bulletproof, 44-milimeter glass is accessed by asilver-plated staircase with a fingerprint scanner at the door. Elsewhere Starck scattered Baccaratcrystal tables, alligator skin and Kudu horn chairs, stingray skin upholstered walls and hand-stitchedleather paneling. Some of the companies involved in constructing the unique sea beast went bankrupt due to the difficulties in executing Starck's design dictums. Filling the A's gas tanks alone costs $500,000 a pop and running costs come to about $20 million a year. Check out a video of the eye-popping yacht after the jump:

Protesters Decry Murakami Show At Versailles

takashi murakami versailles 468x312 Protesters decry Murakami show at Versailles

A show of outlandish sculptures by a Japanese artist in the Chateau of Versailles near Paris has enraged traditionalists who say it dishonours France’s past.

From September 14 to December 12, visitors to Versailles will see eye-grabbing multicoloured statues in silver, fibreglass and metal by Takashi Murakamialongside the chateau’s ornate murals and chandeliers.

“The Chateau de Versailles is one of the greatest symbols of Western history,” Murakami said in a statement on the museum’s website.

“The Versailles of my imagination… has become a kind of completely separate and unreal world,” he added. “That is what I have tried to depict in this exhibition.”

Versailles enthusiasts however branded it an outrage to their beloved museum in the posh Paris suburb.

“Murakami and company have no business in the Chateau of Versailles!” reads a message on the website Versailles Mon Amour, dedicated to a petition which it says has gained more than 3,500 signatures.

“The chateau is not a billboard but one of the symbols of our history and our culture,” it says.

French King Louis XVI was driven from the chateau by revolutionaries in 1789 and guillotined four years later.

His ancestor Louis XIV had set up court there in the 17th century, living in his royal apartments — site of the new exhibition.

The museum’s director, former culture minister Jean-Jacques Aillagon told AFP the protests “come from far-right fundamentalist circles and from very conservative circles.”

Such groups see Versailles as “a reliquary of nostalgia of (pre-revolution) Ancien Regime France, of a France that is turned in on itself and hostile to modernity,” Aillagon added.

Murakami has a global cult following, but his brash, colourful style and sometimes gleefully obscene subject matter are not to everyone’s taste.

The 47-year-old artist’s work evokes the look of “manga” comic books, perhaps most famously in the 1997 statue Hiropon, which depicts a large-chested girl skipping over a “rope” of spurting breast milk.

In another sculpture, “My Lonesome Cowboy”, a naked young man finds a novel use for his own semen (pictured below).

These two works are not part of the Versailles exhibition, but Anne Brassie, a local literary critic who launched the petition, cited them as showing that Murakami was not worthy to have his work displayed in Versailles.

“The young man with an erect penis whose sperm forms a lasso, the little woman with big breasts whose milk forms a skipping rope — these have no place in the royal apartments,” she told AFP.

Another patriotic cultural group, Versailles Defence Coordination, also launched a petition which it said has gained more than 4,000 signatures. Its leader Arnaud Upinsky said the exhibition was “illegal”.

Aillagon said the works in the show “were chosen carefully so they could be seen by everyone.”

They include “Oval Buddha Silver”, a meditating silver figure with a huge globular head, and the multicoloured psychedelic sculpture “Flower Matango”.

The Murakami show is one in a series of contemporary art installations in the chateau, launched by Aillagon.

jeffkoons versailles 468x260 Protesters decry Murakami show at Versailles

The first such show in 2008, with bright and bizarre sculptures by the US artist Jeff Koons (above), also angered traditionalists.

Prince Charles-Emmanuel de Bourbon-Parme, an heir of Louis XIV, tried to get it banned, saying it dishonoured his family’s past, but the courts dismissed his bid.

Visitors flocked to the Koons show and to the second in the series in 2009, with works by French pop artist Xavier Veilhan including futuristic purple horses, a naked woman, and a colossal four-metre (13-foot) long Yuri Gagarin.

Aillagon said the series “aims to give visitors to historic monuments the chance to discover art that is less familiar to them, and to those who want to see Takashi Murakami or Jeff Koons to come to the chateau where they wouldn’t normally come.”

The organisers of the site said a “playful” demonstration was planned in front of the chateau on the day of the exhibition’s opening.

Historic Hamptons Site Listed For $81.5 Million

A massive swath of land in Southampton, New York just hit the market for $81.5 million. The Olde Towne Association has unveiled its completed 50-acre historic site. The site includes the largest mature tree move in history and offers seven building parcels for sale for a total $81.5 million, the largest land offering in Southampton Village. The four acre individual lots are available from $10.5 to $13.5 million dollars, some with second floor pond and ocean views.

Andrew Saunders of Saunders & Associates
is the listing real estate broker and calls the area one of the "most rarified settings in the Hamptons."

The property is the site of the first English settlement in New York and developer Bob Gianos, founder and president of East End Properties LLC is only the seventh titled owner in 370 years. He has created a total of 10 buildable parcels with a central tree-lined green area of open space, a nature preserve at one end and open meadows at the other, a total of over a third of the space of the entire property. A separate set of roads enter from the rear of each parcel for construction and service. Gianos donated 5.5 acres to the adjacent Fowler Nature Preserve and partnered with the Community Preservation Fund to create a separate park across the street.
