Great looking spot, plus it serves a good purpose.
Solus4 entered their concept into a design competition in Indonesia, where they stated that the marine research center (housed 150m from the popular Kuta beach) would focus on tsunamis—specifically, getting an earlier head’s up on them, in wake of the 2004 disaster.

Not only would the research center have laboratories for working in, but it’d also contain bedrooms for the workers and even a seawater pool. You have to wonder why they’d need a pool with all that glorious water surrounding the vessel, but I do like the sound of the proposed aquatic garden library, too. Only if I could keep one of Ringo’s octopi in the garden, in the shade, of course.

The Gummi Bear Candelier, Now in Mini

Jellio's original limited edition Candelier, the giant chandelier made up of 5000 tiny acrylic gummi bear 'candies,' was so popular its been reincarnated in a new, miniature form. Created by hand-stringing approx 3000 high-gloss acrylic mulit-colored bears that hang in a perfect sphere, the Mini Candelierhas a 17" diameter and even at half the size of the original is still a significant lighting fixture. And although each Candelier is handmade so no two are exactly alike Jellio has yet to offer color customization options -- I'd personally like to see one in all yellow or all red. $1,800

the château de versailles is the location of the latest exhibition by japanese artist takashi murakami. the show is titled
‘murakami versailles’ and features a number of manga-inspired sculptures displayed both indoors and out at the
historic french palace. of the 22 works on display, 11 were created specifically for this show. all the murakami
works sit within the context of the palace, often contrasting sharply with the period décor and complimenting it
at other times. the show will run from now till december 12th as part of the regular versailles admission.

Russian Billionaire's Philippe Starck - Designed Superyacht Startles San Diego

It caused quite a kerfuffle when 38-year-old Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko's megayacht A(above), designed by Philippe Starck, weighed anchor off San Diego the other day while its owner drove off to check out Hearst Castle. The 390-ft. craft which resembles a sci-fi submarine cost over $300 million to build to the quirky designer's specs at Blohm + Voss, where Roman Abramovich'sEclipse was also constructed. With a crew of 35 (all outfitted in Starck-designed uniforms) to run it, the A's twin diesel's kick down 24,000 hp for a maximum speed of 24 knots, impressive for a ship this size. The interior features $40,000 bath faucets and $60,000 stair banisters.

The all-white, 2,583-sq.-ft. master suite wrapped in bulletproof, 44-milimeter glass is accessed by asilver-plated staircase with a fingerprint scanner at the door. Elsewhere Starck scattered Baccaratcrystal tables, alligator skin and Kudu horn chairs, stingray skin upholstered walls and hand-stitchedleather paneling. Some of the companies involved in constructing the unique sea beast went bankrupt due to the difficulties in executing Starck's design dictums. Filling the A's gas tanks alone costs $500,000 a pop and running costs come to about $20 million a year. Check out a video of the eye-popping yacht after the jump:

The Montgolfliere Chandelier

Part of the new Couture Collection by Marie Christophe available from Vivre, the name translates to Golden Hot-Air Balloon, and the design translates the classic chandelier into a whimsical modern sculpture. Completely handmade, swooping wires strung with prune and gold beads gracefully arch from one arm to another, while faceted crystals dangle and six stations illuminate.
